Transmission services

Rebuilt right, in house, the first time

Diagnosis, rebuilding, and repair of the automatic transmissions in late-model GM and Ford trucks and SUVs. Transmissions are the whole job here, not a line item on a general repair menu.

What we do

Services

Everything below happens under this roof, with one person accountable for the outcome. The only exception is a unit old or rare enough that a dedicated specialist is genuinely the better call for you, and we'll say so rather than learn on your truck.

01 — Diagnostics

Find out what's actually wrong

Nothing gets quoted before it gets diagnosed. A lot of what feels like transmission failure turns out to be electrical, engine, sensor, computer, or driveline, and replacing a transmission that wasn't the problem is the most expensive mistake in this trade.

  • Road test with a scan tool connected, monitoring live parameters
  • Fluid quality and level inspection
  • Fault code retrieval and interpretation, not just a code read
  • A straight answer about what we think is happening and what your options are

The initial check is free. If it points to something that needs deeper diagnostics, that work is billed at one hour of labor and we tell you before we start.

Diagnosis before anything comes apart
02 — Rebuilding

Full rebuilds, done here

The unit comes out, comes apart, and every component gets inspected. Worn and damaged parts are replaced, reusable pieces are cleaned and reconditioned, and it goes back together to specification.

  • Torque converter and valve body assembly replacement as required
  • Clutches, steels, seals, gaskets, bushings, bearings, pistons, filters
  • Upgraded aftermarket components where they solve a known failure point
  • Reassembled to spec, installed, calibrated, and road tested
Every hard part inspected, not assumed
03 — Replacement units

New and remanufactured installation

Sometimes a rebuild isn't the right answer. If the case or the major hard parts aren't reusable, a new or remanufactured unit can make more sense, and we'll install it properly.

We'll also tell you when it doesn't make sense. On a lot of modern automatics a rebuild with upgraded components is the stronger unit, because a remanufactured transmission is built to the same specification that failed in the first place.

04 — Maintenance

Service before you need a rebuild

The most reliable way to avoid a rebuild is to service the transmission before the manufacturer says you have to. This is the cheapest work we do and it's the work we most want you to book.

  • Pan drop, internal filter replacement, magnet cleaning, fresh fluid
  • Hydraulic flush service that forces new fluid in and old fluid out
  • Manufacturer-specified fluid, or a comparable upgrade like Amsoil or Mobil 1 if you want one
  • Preventive service on the GM 8L family, which is particularly susceptible to wear in the fluid

05 — Upgrades

Components that outlast the originals

Modern automatics have well-documented failure points, and the aftermarket has spent years engineering around them. When a better part exists for a known weak spot, we use it.

That's not about chasing performance. It's about not reinstalling the exact component that put your truck on our lift in the first place. If you tow, run heavy, or plan to keep the truck a long time, this is where the value is.

How the job runs

No surprises

You get a written invoice before any repair starts, with the complaint, the cause, and the correction spelled out. Nothing happens that you didn't agree to.

01

Free check

Road test with a scan tool, fluid inspection, and our honest read on what's going on.

02

Diagnosis

If it needs to go deeper, that's one hour of labor, agreed before we start.

03

Written estimate

Emailed and texted to you. Complaint, cause, correction. You approve before we touch it.

04

The work

Out, apart, inspected, rebuilt with upgraded parts where they matter, back together to spec.

05

Road test

Installed, calibrated, and driven before it goes back to you. 3 years / 45,000 miles.

The honest comparison

Rebuild or replace?

Not always the same answer, and anyone who tells you it is has stopped diagnosing. Here's how we actually decide, so you can hold us to it.

A rebuild makes sense when

The bones are good

  • The case and the major hard parts are reusable
  • The failure is one we can address at its source
  • Upgraded aftermarket components exist for the known weak point
  • You want the stronger unit, not just a running one
Replacement makes sense when

Too much is gone

  • The case or major components are damaged past reuse
  • Debris has traveled far enough that a rebuild stops being economical
  • Parts availability for that specific unit makes a rebuild impractical
  • The math genuinely favors it, and we'll show you the math

Worth knowing: on many modern automatics a rebuild with upgraded components outperforms a remanufactured unit, because the reman is built to the specification that failed. We'll tell you which one your truck is, not which one is easier for us.

What we work on

Units we see every week

Deep familiarity with late-model GM and Ford automatics. If your unit is on this list, we know its failure patterns before it comes through the door.

We don't currently rebuild CVTs or dual-clutch transmissions. Many CVTs require manufacturer assembly-line tooling, and the cost of a remanufactured unit doesn't justify the cost or the liability of repairing them here. We'd rather tell you that up front.

3 YR 45,000 miles · included

Covers abnormal transmission operation caused by defective new parts or by our workmanship. No extra charge, no upsell, no separate warranty product to buy.

Warranty

Three years,
because of what goes in

The length of a warranty tells you what a shop actually thinks of its own work. Ours is three years and 45,000 miles because of the quality of the parts and the way they go in.

We're not interested in racing to the bottom on price against shops with less value in their solution. If someone quotes you less, ask what their warranty is and what parts they're using. That's usually the whole answer.
